Centro de Estudos Geográficos – Universidade de Lisboa

CEG-UL (Centre of Geographical Research) is a research unit of the University of Lisbon classified with Excellent in the national evaluation of research units. The CEG-UL was formed in the late 40s and in the last 6 decades has been in the forefront of the national geographical research, being involved in the reference international networks. The CEG-UL includes a large diversity of research areas, social geography being one of the most relevant domains mainly concerned with exclusion/inclusion processes. The main topics concern: (i) labour market and social inclusion strategies; (ii) immigration and immigrant communities’ integration; (iii) gender and the ethnic perspectives in the context of European and national public policies and programmes. The role of culture and cultural activities in social inclusion processes and also as factors of economic dynamics is being increasingly debated in the last few years.
