Drs. Bas Tierolf has been a member of the research group Youth and Education at the Verwey-Jonker Institute since 2006. He graduated in 1990 at the University of Groningen (RUG) in special education. During his study, he was an educational research worker at RION (a regional institute for educational research in the North of the Netherlands). Afterwards, he was a researcher at SYNTAX. In 1996, he became head of the department Research/Policy & Analysis at the Provincial Development institute for Care and Well-being Groningen (POZW). Later, this organization merged into CMO Groningen, of which he became research manager. He conducted various quantitative and qualitative studies in the field of care, well-being, youth and education, mostly in the province of Groningen and its communities. This way, he studied the social policy in the province and, more recently, wrote reports for the province about the welfare of young people. Furthermore, he was secretary and Vice-President of the provincial research platform of the VSO.
